LAND AND LAW

Privacy policy

What Land and Law collects, why, who handles it, and how to ask us to delete it.

Last updated 18 October 2026

This policy explains what personal data Land and Law (“we”, “us”) collects, why, and the choices you have. It follows India’s Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 and the Information Technology Act, 2000. Land and Law is published by LawyerDesk Advocacy Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh, which is the data fiduciary for the data described here.

What we collect

  • Newsletter sign-up. Your email address, the topics and frequency you choose, the page you signed up on, the time, the wording of the consent you saw, and a one-way (hashed) form of your IP address. We never store your raw IP address for this.
  • Ask Land and Law (AI answers). The question text is sent to our AI provider to produce an answer. We keep only a keyed hash of the question and a count for abuse control, not a readable copy. Please do not type personal details, case numbers or addresses into the box.
  • Analytics. If Google Analytics is switched on, it records page views, approximate location, device and browser type, and the page that referred you. We use it in aggregate to see what readers find useful. It is off unless we set a measurement ID.
  • Server logs. Our hosting records technical data (IP address, time, page, browser) for security and fault-finding, kept for a short period.
  • Saved items. Your saved stories and chosen state are kept in your own browser storage. They never reach our servers.

We do not ask for payment details, ID numbers or property documents on this site, and we do not knowingly collect data from children under 18. If a child has sent us an email address, write to us and we will delete it.

Why we use it, and on what basis

  • To send the newsletter you asked for (your consent).
  • To answer your question in Ask Land and Law (your request).
  • To keep the site secure, stop abuse and limit automated traffic (legitimate use under the Act).
  • To understand which pages help readers and improve them (your consent where analytics is on).

We do not sell your data, rent your email address, or use it for advertising profiles.

Who processes it for us

We use these service providers to run the site. Each handles data only on our instructions.

  • Supabase (database hosting): newsletter records and article content.
  • Microsoft Azure (site hosting, image storage, AI models): site traffic, stored images, and questions sent to Ask Land and Law.
  • Resend (email delivery, when switched on): your email address, to send the newsletter.
  • Google Analytics (when switched on): the analytics data above.

Some of these providers store data outside India. We choose providers with recognised security practices and contracts that protect the data. We may also disclose data when the law or a court requires it.

Cookies and similar storage

The site itself sets no advertising cookies. It uses your browser’s local storage for saved stories and your chosen state. The admin desk, which readers never see, uses one sign-in cookie. If Google Analytics is on, Google may set its own cookies. You can block or clear cookies in your browser settings at any time.

How long we keep it

Newsletter details are kept until you unsubscribe, and then deleted or reduced to a record that you opted out, so we do not email you again. Server logs are kept for a short operational period. Analytics data follows Google’s retention setting for our account.

Your rights

You can ask us to show you the personal data we hold about you, correct it, delete it, or withdraw your consent. You may also name someone to exercise these rights for you. Every newsletter email has a one-click unsubscribe link, and the same page is at /subscribe/unsubscribe. For anything else, write to editor@landandlaw.in from the address concerned. We reply within 30 days.

Security

Data travels over encrypted connections. Our database blocks direct public access, newsletter records are reachable only through limited functions, and we pseudonymise IP addresses and question text. No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your personal data, we will tell you and the Data Protection Board of India as the law requires.

Grievances

Grievance Officer, LawyerDesk Advocacy Pvt Ltd, Visakhapatnam, Andhra Pradesh. Email editor@landandlaw.in. We acknowledge a complaint within 48 hours and aim to resolve it within 15 days. If you are not satisfied, you may complain to the Data Protection Board of India once it is operating.

Changes

We will update this page when what we do changes, and change the date above. For a material change that affects subscribers, we will also tell them by email.
