TSLR (Town Survey Land Register) in Tamil Nadu

TSLR (Town Survey Land Register) in Tamil Nadu is the land record for property in towns and cities that have had a town survey. It gives the town, ward, block, town survey number, the holder's name and the land details. View the TSLR Extract free on eservices.tn.gov.in by selecting the district, taluk, town, ward, block, town survey number and subdivision, then verifying a mobile OTP. A separate TSLR Sketch - Urban option shows the drawing of the plot. The Revenue Department's Policy Note 2024-25 reports TSLR records online for all 14 urban taluks, 87 towns and 21 corporations, with sketches for 185 of 186 towns. The Directorate of Survey and Settlement says TSLR and block maps are digitally signed and free to download. Patta changes for urban land are applied for on the Tamil Nilam Citizen Portal.

Definition

TSLR (Town Survey Land Register): The register of land in surveyed towns, kept in the Tamil Nilam (Urban) system. For each town survey number in a ward and block, it records the old survey number, the municipal door number, the land classification, the extent by town survey, the assessment, the holder and how the holding is used.

When you need it

Before you buy a plot, house or flat in a surveyed town, to check that the seller's name and the town survey number in the deed match the TSLR. Use the TSLR sketch to compare the shape and extent of the plot with the deed schedule. After registration, check it again to see that the holding has moved to your name.

Steps

  1. Open eservices.tn.gov.in/eservicesnew/index.html (English) and click TSLR Extract.
  2. Select the district, taluk and town.
  3. Select the ward and block.
  4. Select the town survey number and subdivision number. If there is no subdivision, use 0.
  5. Enter your 10-digit mobile number, click Get OTP, enter the OTP and submit. Download the extract.
  6. For the drawing of the plot, use TSLR Sketch - Urban with the same details.
  7. To correct or transfer the entry, log in to the Tamil Nilam Citizen Portal and choose the urban patta transfer or TSLR Modification service.

How to read it

The header gives the district, taluk, town, ward and block. Each row has the town survey number and subdivision, the old survey number, the municipal door number, whether the land is government or private, its type (dry, wet, house-site or poramboke), the extent in hectares, ares and square metres, the assessment, and how the holding is used. Check that the holder matches the seller and the door number matches the tax bill. A second table lists government land granted to a person or body, with the conditions of the grant.

Red flags

  • The holder named in the TSLR is not the seller
  • The land is classed as poramboke or government land
  • An entry in the grants table, with conditions attached to the land
  • The extent by town survey is smaller than the extent in the deed
  • The sketch page shows No Approved TSLR Sketch Available
  • A door number that does not match the property tax assessment

Questions

How is the TSLR different from the patta?
The TSLR covers land in surveyed towns and is searched by town, ward, block and town survey number. Patta, chitta and the A-Register cover rural and natham land and are searched by village and survey number. Both are on eservices.tn.gov.in, both are free to view, and both are maintained in the Tamil Nilam land record system.
Is the online TSLR a valid record?
The Directorate of Survey and Settlement says the TSLR and block maps on the portal are digitally signed and free to download. G.O.(Ms) No.303 of 2016, which gave legal validity to online records, names only the QR-coded A-Register and Patta. If a court or bank needs the TSLR, ask what form of copy it will accept.
Why can't I find my town in the TSLR list?
Only towns with a town survey have a TSLR. On 22 October 2026, the TSLR district list had 36 districts; Ariyalur and Perambalur were not in it. If the property is in a village or a natham area, use View Patta / Chitta / FMB or View A-Register Extract instead, with the village and survey number.
How do I enter a town survey number with no subdivision?
The TSLR form asks you to enter 0 in the subdivision field when there is none. For town survey number 24/2, enter 24 as the number and 2 as the subdivision. The rural forms on the same portal are different: they use a hyphen (-) when there is no subdivision. A wrong entry returns no record.
How do I correct or transfer a TSLR entry?
Log in to the Tamil Nilam Citizen Portal with your mobile number. Its services include patta transfer for urban land, with or without subdivision, and TSLR Modification for corrections. The patta transfer processing fee is Rs 60. For help, the Directorate of Survey and Settlement lists helpline 1100 and the email dir-sur@nic.in.
What does the TSLR sketch show?
TSLR Sketch - Urban shows the drawing of the town survey number. The Policy Note 2024-25 says these sketches are generated from vectorised block maps and are online for 185 of 186 towns. Where none exists, the portal says No Approved TSLR Sketch Available. Block maps can also be downloaded from tnlandsurvey.tn.gov.in.
